For Presidential and Congressional candidates who refuse to provide voters with their positions, Vote Smart has researched their public records to determine their likely responses. These issue positions are from 2024.
| Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| I believe we cannot keep tying up resources debating this issue. Stare Decisis, which means let the decision stand is the basis for precedence. Precedence keeps the wheels of justice grinding . It is a hot button issue. Said debates serve to put candidates into "cubby holes". Also causing an avoidance of other vital issues. The half century debate regarding Roe vs. Wade, created a polarization and lack of communication between the groups We need to provide education regarding birth control. Furthermore, abortions will be done. It is safer to have them done legally; safely in a sanitary "hospital" environment. | |||
| Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| Yes | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare? | ||
| Regarding tax increase. Not on the working class. Definitely not on pensioners on moderate fixed incomes. Social Security needs reforming. If 60 has become the new 40; we just might have to examine the age for collecting, or there will be nothing to collect. We must resist the practice of lumping Medicare with Social Security. Medicare is solvent. It is also the single most successful government program in the history of this great nation. It needs to be expanded to cover ALL! I will explain at the end, where the funds can be found. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| I believe all campaigns need to be funded by the government. Businesses, foreign interests, any group that might cause a candidate to become in debt to his contributor as opposed to his or her constituency must be excluded from the election process. We don't allow Exxon and Walmart to vote. We shouldn't allow corporations to choose who gets on the ballot. Furthermore, it is in the best interest of America and Americans to have better access to the ballot. Third, and more parties should be encouraged to have a more visible place on the ballot, along with independent candidates. | |||
| No | Do you support increasing defense spending? | ||
| I would like redefine defense or remind us all the meaning. It has come to mean rockets and bombs. It really has become offense spending. Defense should include; pandemic readiness; climate and environment dynamics; guardianship of the American way of life; to wit: American Businesses prohibited from going off shore. Jobs and production remain here in the U.S.A. Retirement investments remain secure. Workers are respected. Consumers are protected! That is true defense. We shouldn't still have troops in Germany and Japan, now that they are allowed to have standing armies. We have enough weapons of mass destruction. | |||
| Yes | Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards? | ||
| As a minimum. Certainly not to stop there. We also need to examine the way we define education. It is not job preparation. We need a broadly educated youth. They should have a vast exposure to numerous subjects and protocols. They should grow into mature, sophisticated well adjusted adults with an ability to think, create and do for themselves. We should not continue to merely indoctrinate young people to be good little worker "bees", who follow their corporate masters. We should encourage our young to be the future artists, scientists, teachers, leaders of tomorrow. Successful in their personal lives also. | |||
| Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| The current pandemic crisis should teach us, once and for all the planet is our home; not our garbage dump. We cannot continue to pollute the environment. Renewable energy is less expensive than fossil fuel. It is a double win. We cease to rape the planet to get the fuel; therefore less pollution. An additionally benefit is the renewed health of the American citizenry. We are in the midst of debates about health care costs. The best way to reduce those costs is to improve people's health! Different negative emissions cause a variety of immediate and long term health problems | |||
| Yes | Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| We need to preserve the 2nd amendment along with the entire Bill of Rights and The Constitution. Whenever anybody is killed, many Americans cry out for stricter gun control. Sadly, many of these violent crimes would be committed anyway, as they use illegal weapons. We need to stop playing "Spy vs Spy" and looking the other way at weapons trading, while searching for drugs and immigrants looking for solace. We need stronger law enforcement. Criminals don't believe they will be caught. The sentencing, bail and parole is not the problem right wingers make out. Not being caught is the problem. | |||
| No | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border? | ||
| No | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
| America is a nation of immigrants. It is what makes us who we are; it makes us great. Anybody in government whose answer to any problem is separate Mama from baby needs to go into another line of work. The nation I was born in; raised and educated in; lived my entire life in would never tear a child from a mother's arms. The current racist treatment of immigrants is reprehensible. Workers' incomes are limited by businesses moving offshore; cutting hours; resisting rises in minimum wage, not by people looking for a better life. Most undocumented workers overstayed their visas. | |||
| Yes | Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts? | ||
| The United States cannot continue to be the world's police force. Especially as we have numerous problems within our borders needing attention and appropriate funding. Impeding our enemies' and other unstable hostile dictatorships from possessing the means to destroy America, our allies or innocents worldwide is a concerning that must be met with measured determination. Authoritarian leaders cannot claim we are invading a sovereign, free state if the people are not truly represented, let alone protected. Therefore, I believe we have the legal right and moral imperative; to be tempered with cautious forethought. | |||
| No | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)? | ||
| Unilaterally removing barriers is unjust to Americans. It also leads to agreements that sound "enlightened" and "evolved", but are just poor choices to demonstrate trendy knee jerk limousine liberalism. Like NAFTA, for example. I was against it from the beginning. When people on all sides of a particular issue agree. Republicans, Democrats, Urban, rural, labor leaders, business owners, Ross Perot, Steve Forbes, Ron Paul, Jerry Brown. All were against NAFTA. When such differing philosophies agree, we need to think long and hard before acting. | |||
| Pandemic readiness. The deleterious effect it has upon health, life, spirituality, culture and finances should awaken us to a new path. We need to need to respect our home, Earth, America and ALL Americans. We should take this "rebirth" and rebuild our social and economic lives. Leave us end social distancing metaphorically and physically! We must house the homeless and feed the hungry. There are businesses that throw away enough food to feed the hungry. There are vacant properties that can house the homeless and let them learn new trades by maintaining said domains and gardens. Solutions are available. |
